The slowest wedding gift
Our families sent us to Alleppey with a list of things to see. The boat crew read the list, smiled and said we would see them all by accident. They were right. We drifted past temples, paddy fields and a school letting out, and nobody was in a hurry.

Sajan's kitchen
Sajan cooked karimeen and appam in a kitchen the size of a wardrobe. He asked what we liked and then simply made it. When we said we could not finish it all, he packed the rest for the canoe ride.

What we remember
Not the sights. The quiet. We put our phones in a drawer on the first afternoon and forgot where the drawer was until we got back to the jetty.
