After forty years of work, a retired couple finally took the slow holiday they had been promising each other.
01
Promised for forty years
We had promised ourselves a hill station holiday since our wedding. Something always came up: exams, weddings, a house. When Gopal retired, our daughter booked it before we could argue.
02
No agenda
We woke when we woke. We walked around the lake in the mist and had tea in a small shop that had been there longer than the road. The Jai Travels coordinator called once a day just to ask if we needed anything, which felt strangely comforting.
03
Home again
Our neighbours asked what we did for four days. We said, nothing, and it was wonderful. That was the whole point.
